A type of yellow tea made from hand-picked tea tree buds and young leaves (1 to 2 leaves). Yellow tea is no longer widely produced and is hard to obtain. It is a tea that was made for the royal family during the Tang Dynasty about 1000 years ago. The production process of yellow tea includes an additional step that makes the tea leaves softer and rounder than green tea. This kind of tea is very suitable for those who do not like the grassy taste of green tea but still want to drink green tea for health reasons.
A treasure of yellow tea. Originating from Huoshan County in the Dabie Mountain area of Anhui Province, the production history of Huoshan tea is long-standing. Huoshan was historically part of Shouzhou, and since the Tang Dynasty, it has been producing a yellow bud that is considered a premium tea. During the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (AD 1644-1912), it was even listed as a tribute to the royal court.
The production of Huoshan Yellow Bud requires tender and fresh leaves, usually picked and processed on the same day, going through five steps: killing green, initial baking, spreading, secondary baking, and full baking. After spreading and secondary baking, the tea leaves are allowed to become damp and turn yellow.
